Default Uh oh....

The 800lb gorilla has found me. I downloaded it to see if I really wanted to plop down the $130 when this OS update becomes available.

I like Apple and I was genuinely going to pay the full $130 for OS10.5 when it comes out, but this really ticks me off to the point I'm thinking about skipping it.

They can't go after you for downloading it, thats legal and I do it all the time....now if you were UPLOADING it or HOSTING it to be uploaded then thats a whole different thing. You HAVE to be distributing or sharing it. Thats how the Music Mafia have to do it as well as the Movie Nazi's. Sharing is distributing and distribution is the cornerstone to a Millineum Copyright Act violation. FYI Bit Torrent and any Peer to peer thing is sharing it.

I consistently get 100-400KBps download speeds out of BitTorrent and I do have uploading disabled.

Out of years of P2P and BitTorrent, this is the first notice I've ever received.

You need to check because somehow they could see you had that or it appeared you had that on a share basis.

That's easy to find. I can see the IP address of every user currently uploading and downloading a torrent.

Example, I can see all these active users for this specific torrent even if I am not uploading or downloading from them.

Thats the key...they are assuming you are downloading as most are on there. My guess is that would be hard to prove in court since they have to prove you were distributing (ergo Uploading). But then..........

Perhaps its time to enlist an Anonymizer?

I finally got it to install completely. Unfortunately, it's an older build so it doesn't have all those fancy looking features.

It does have Spaces though. Pretty cool little feature, I can see myself using it alot.

Now, to find the newest version that will fit on a single layer DVD.

No luck trimming the 9A466 beta to fit on a DVD so I caved, bought some dual layer DVD's and got it to work. But, since I overclocked my Mini to 1.58GHz, the firmware reports it as 750mhz so it thinks the computer is not up to minimum specs (800mhz) and it won't install.

I'll just have to chip off the 3rd resistor to knock it back 80mhz to 1.5ghz so I can install. Oh well, I'll just have to live with a 5% overclock.

hrm... i wonder what they would think of my posting via OSX 10.4.8 shoehorned into an old HP desktop.

you sound like you know what you are doing, but if i may offer my thoughts on torrenting?

dont download copyrighted material with filenames that describe exactly what it is...and stay away from the piratebay nothing but trouble there: too well known

i generally use ktorrent on a suse box, has some nice anonymizing features.
